Berkeley City Club Wedding With a Timeless Vintage Style

Not far from the UC Berkeley campus is the stunning Berkeley City Club. I can only imagine the stories that this historic venue can tell! Built by the barrier-breaking architect, Julia Morgan, her style and work can be seen in a number of Bay Area wedding venues. The Berkeley City Club was built in 1927 and was known as a “little castle.” From the outside of the building, you might pass by it without notice, but once you step into its lobby you are completely transported to another era, where every space and line were taken into careful consideration.

The bride and groom had a wonderful, come-what-may vibe, and emphasized the importance of simply enjoying their wedding day and spending time with their guests. They gave full creative license to their talented local Berkeley florist, Gorgeous and Green, to style the floral arrangements and table-settings however she liked. Check out the vintage typewriters, books, bottles, scale, and desk fan that adorned the reception tables! I also loved the bride’s bouquet, rich with pops of velvety red and contrasted by the texture of soft white feathers. Her lace gown from Wtoo by Watters, with its structured and geometric lines perfectly complimented the architecture of the Berkeley City Club, and the vintage theme.

After the bride slipped on her dress and adding the finishing touches, the couple had their sweet First Look in the courtyard, and then took all their family photos, so that after the ceremony they could jump right into enjoying their celebration. And these two could dance! The dance floor was in full swing the entire night!

While the Berkeley City Club is mostly an indoor venue, the courtyard lets in pretty sunlight and is filled with lush, botanical greenery. The terrace where the ceremony was held lets in some beautiful side light. Also, check out the jaw-dropping heated indoor pool! The bride and groom snuck away with me towards the end of the night to grab a few photos at the indoor pool.

This wedding was the perfect blend of vintage, elegance, and laid-back charm, and was a complete joy to photograph!
